Two Subjects Which Reflect Our Society

People are mean. I am not talking about the snooty people that just make your day more annoying, I mean the stupid people that are just about the worst that should ever cross your path as the day progresses.

I went to Starbucks this morning in Monrovia. I like the Monrovia Starbucks. They are busy, but the people are always nice, they are familiar faces, and they are polite. I wish I could say the same about the customers. The customers there, with the exclusion of the select few, are completely horrible. This morning I walked in to the lovely surprise of there being no line. I did look to the left however and found myself staring at a group of people awaiting their morning rush to the lovely noise of the one barrista making drinks as fast as he could. (note: behind the registers there are two people. One who is very nice and, I suspect to be, the manager and the other this very polite young lady who is deaf, but can read lips).

It is now about two or three days later, and I continue my blog...

So there are a lot of people waiting for their drinks. Keeping in mind there is only one person making the drinks. This customer waiting for her drink yells out (yes... yells in public), "Do you have a [states her drink... don't remember the name] coming up any time soon?". Apparently I did not get the memo that the world revolves around her coffee. Then this guy walks up to her and starts in with her complaining by being cute (or what I am led to believe is supposed to be cute) and says, "They have to grow the beans first." Yeah, I thought he was just so funny too. *I am tired, but please note the heavy sarcasm in my statement*

In regards to these two people, I just don't know why they have to be so rude. It is so much that people cannot have the foresight to understand they need to allow more than 5 minutes to get their coffee in the morning. If they think they can do better, by all means... make your own coffee at home in the morning. That way my ice green tea with no sweetener and light ice will be available sooner. Not that I mind waiting, because I don't.

Second situation was this moron who ordered a drink, which came with two pumps of some flavor, from the deaf employee. He wanted the pumps placed on the top of the drink and managed to get this point across very poorly on his part. He then asked the deaf girl if she had understood what he wanted, she said "yes". He then went to the gentleman making the drinks, COVERED HIS MOUTH (so the deaf girl could not see what he was saying), and said, "I don't think she understands what I want." The barrista stated that she had punched in the order correctly and he need not worry.

Yes, he covered his mouth. When I saw this I wanted to removed the man from Starbucks myself. If I ever saw someone do something like that to one of my employees, they would not have to worry about doing it a second time. I could not believe how rude and blatantly ignorant that was. It just blew my mind that someone could be that thoughtless about how their actions could impact the emotions of anther person.

The only reason I feel compelled to write this blog is because I find it sad that people have to act this way. I make an effort, even when I am having impatient days, to be patient with people. If not for the obvious reason that we should treat everyone properly, but that it makes me proud of myself when I am able to look past my impatient tendencies and act like a grown up. Additionally, I would not mess with someone who is responsible for supplying my morning cup of coffee. That's just dangerous.

In closing, if anyone reads this... I urge and challenge you to make the effort of treating someone with kindness and patience when they (a): don't deserve kindness and (b): you find yourself with out patience. Have a great day!!!
